Description

"Olivia, dearest, what would you like the new year to bring you?"
"I donno, daddy. I already have everything I could ever need. I have a new home and I have you, and all thanks to Mr. Basil and Dr. Dawson."
"Yes, indeed... We owe them so many things."
"Daddy? I miss London..."
"Me too, dearest."
"Why did we have to leave, daddy? We could have gone back home!"
"If only we could have..."
"... I didn't even get the chance to make a proper memory."
" Dearest, there shall always be time for you to make a memory. Time is certainly something you don't lack in fac- Ah! Olivia, quickly, make a wish before the clock strikes twelve. You have only ten more seconds!"

'There is always time to make a memory ... if that is true, that that shall be my New Year's Wish: I want to make a memory - a memory of a nice sunny day, with Dr. Dawson reading one of his books, with Mr. Basil playing his violin ... and sunshine and butterflies and ... '

"... 3 ... 2 ..."

'... everybody being happy.'

"...1!"

Now concerning the work ... please do not ask where the idea came from. It just did while I was listening to "A Few Good Friends" from Piglet's Big Movie(can't decide if I like the English version or the Romanian one ( [link] ) more). And from there ... my hand picked up a pencil, started doodling, liked said doddle, then scan - Photoshop - changed my mind concerning the general atmosphere a couple of times (finally settled for a dream-like/memory-type one) - and voila!

Making the grass tall was particularly fun :D (had to keep in mind the fact that they are mice!) And just so you won't start pointing out the fact that a tree can't be that small, I'll say "have you ever looked at the roots of a tree before?". Oh, and the reason leafs can be seen is because I decided to make this particular tree a willow tree

Still ... I BLAME YOU DISNEY!!!

Anywho ~ this is my first time drawing bot Olivia and Dr. Dawson, so GMD fans, be merciful ....

edit 22'th of February 2010: a DD!!! Thank you ever so much

This is one picture I could stare at for hours when it is a memory I wish I could have of my own.

Vision: You've chosen spring again as your basis of a background, and it fits when such a season is cheerful, bright, and warm. Olivia is wanting a happy moment with past friends and chose this setting. It might take some elbow nudging from Dawson to get Basil to sit out there when he's always focused on his work, but hey, he has his brief moments of relaxing. Bringing his violin was a good idea. Dawson and Olivia, by the way, look fantastic. You chose an awkward angle for Olivia's face, a very bold move, but she still looks like her usual, adorable film self. Her body is arched in a strange way, too. I can only think that she was previously sitting on the grass and listened to either Basil play or Dawson read. She then spies the fluttering creature above and wants to grab it by climbing to a higher level, namely Basil's lap, to get to it. Basil looks mildly amused by this and holds her steady while she takes his bow to try and lure it down to her. Dawson has eyeglasses, something I almost said that he doesn't wear, but when I saw you added in a book for him, it is correct. He does wear reading glasses! 5.0

Originality: This is certainly something I have never seen before. Only one other picture was done of Olivia on Basil's back to reach for a butterfly. Dawson, the poor chap, actually had Basil on his shoulders for a higher reach. Still, this is new to me, and I love it a lot. 5.0

Technique: You've chosen soft brushes for the effects again, and this I like particularly when this is supposed to be a memory and it seems to have a faded dream quality to it. I like the transparency on the wings of the butterflies and combination of green and browns for the earth and grass. I'm assuming the little white balls of light are more effects to make this picture seem like a fantasy world. 5.0

Impact: Pure delight, happiness, a casual moment with friends, the kind of moment one would want to remember for all time. It's giving off a lot of warmth and a childlike innocence. You would make a wonderful illustrator for Disney or general fairy tale stories. 5.0
