Description

Donno if this is a good thing ... or a bad thing :z .... I mean ~ daily updates three days in a row? I must be having too much free time ...

Well, just goes to show you how obsessed I must be XD

Quick doddle I made in class that I wished to color, so forgive me if I made some mistakes concerning Basil's design. If you ask me, he looks a bit ... feminine ... And though I know that his trusty pipe should have been in his hand instead of that cup of tea, I just couldn't bring myself to add it. As for the scene ... for some reason I was always picturing something similar to this one when ever I would hear of A Study in Scarlet, so since I already started this madness ... why not? I'm still obsessed after all.

Ok ... once again, I'm going to bed, so enough of my rabling and enjoy ^^

Your GMD art continues to amaze me, and here is another piece doing just that.

Vision: Softness to the subject and objects bring out the drawing as more of a simple, almost live-action scene. Dark shadows are plentiful here, a shame when I long to see so much more of him and the surrounding furniture. The angle of the chair and having two table ends was never seen in the film nor any fan art piece. Basil doesn't look feminine. He actually looks bed worn with the uncombed strands of fur on his head. Though, wearing his Inverness coat indicates he must have just recently come home and didn't bother to get comfortable in his housecoat. Mrs. Judson provided a cup of tea and he immediately began reading the paper when finding something of interest. There's something sliding down next to the arm of the chair and it doesn't look like the hem of his coat. He'd be sitting on that. It looks like a blanket that he applied to the lower half of his body. 4.5 for the realism, but for longing to see more than what's hiding in the shadows.

Originality: Basil sitting in his chair is nothing new, but once more, this particular scene has never been done before. Holding a tea cup is extremely different, too. As you said, you wanted to put that in instead of his pipe, and I actually prefer it. As one who has health kicks now and then, I'd rather him have something that's good for him and won't ruin the lungs! 5.0 for making Basil healthy in this one. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)" />

Technique: The shadows are hiding so much detail, but from what I can see, you've done so much in making this as realistic as you can. The illumination of the lamp, the light reflecting on only a few sections of Basil and the objects is a nice touch of effects. His striped wallpaper is excessively red when it's usually green, and yet, another guess here is you're using such a color when having 'Scarlet' in the title! There are a lot of shades of red here, not just on the wall, too. 5.0 for the use of shades/effects/lighting.

Impact: This is another cozy atmosphere you've done with Basil. This one focuses on a relaxing evening at home with the newspaper and some refreshments. One can almost smell the aroma of the tea, heat of the lamp, and oldness of the furniture. 5.0 for delivering another humble and calm scene for the detective.
